The Jews adopted and preserved the Canaanite language and since they and their pagan neighbors spoke Hebrew, it was very difficult for them to preserve their identity. The northern kingdom of Israel couldn't do it and vanished. The southern kingdom of Judah descended from the House Of David held on to the traditions and faith and managed to preserve those even in exile. By the time the Babylonians conquered Judah and laid waste to the First Temple, Judah, the middle of the original twelve sons of David, was the only survivor. And the tough one. As they say, the rest was history...

As they say, the rest was history... I thought Heavenly Father got fed up with the stiff-necked House of Israel(10 tribes and/or Northern kingdom) and He sent them into the captivity of the Assyrian king, and that His purpose was for them to loose their identity. Jeremiah pens Jeremiah 3:8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also. And Jeremiah told that king of Judah what was to be and the king refused to take heed.
Which Judah are you referring to, or which David are you referring to? I thought Judah was one of the twelve of Jacob.

Thanks for the history lesson, that was interesting. I’m sure that I had heard it before, but it seems new when you hear it in the context of what is happening, now.
