The question “why do they hate the jews” presupposes that the hater is rational. The better question is why is islam a religion of violence.
An antitdote to the anti-jewish types here with their Pat Buchannan style apologies for the jew haters was written by Mark Twain, “Concerning the Jews”. Really, when you get down to it, its hard to find a more moral people and generally better citizens than Jews in any country. They are under-represented in crime, and on welfare rolls.
Read that article of Twains, and stay anti-semetic, and you reveal your own shallow mind.
CONCERNING THE JEWS ...
The Essay (By Mark Twain)
“If the statistics are right, the Jews constitute but one percent of the human race. It suggests a nebulous dim puff of star dust lost in the blaze of the Milky Way. Properly the Jew ought hardly to be heard of, but he is heard of, has always been heard of.
He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his commercial importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk. His contributions to the world’s list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are also away out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. He has made a marvellous fight in the world, in all the ages; and has done it with his hands tied behind him.
He could be vain of himself, and be excused for it. The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose, filled the planet with sound and splendor, then faded to dream-stuff and passed away; the Greek and the Roman followed, and made a vast noise, and they are gone; other peoples have sprung up and held their torch high for a time, but it burned out, and they sit in twilight now, or have vanished.
The Jew saw them all, beat them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind. All things are mortal but the Jew; all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?”

Not sure if I got the original paragraphs in the correct places. However - this line concerns me:
“The Jew saw them all, beat them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind.”
Perhaps this still applies to the Jews in Israel. Not so sure about those in the U.S. that voted overwhelmingly for Obama. :(
.
I am quite sure that (bar one) I have no race prejudices, and I think I have no colour prejudices nor caste prejudices nor creed prejudices. Indeed, I know it. I can stand any society. All that I care to know is that a man is a human being--that is enough for me; he can't be any worse.
That is a good question, but answering that won't tell us why their greatest and oldest hatred is still reserved for the Jews. I think it all started with Mohammed and the Jews of Medina, who refused to recognized him as a prophet, and refused to join his earliest followers. Downhill from there.
