LOS ANGELES -- A man who showed up at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday with a container of handguns, rifles and loaded ammunition magazines in his pickup truck was arrested, an airport official said.
Los Angeles Airport Police officers stopped the Chevy Silverado at 10:49 a.m. at a checkpoint on westbound Century Boulevard at Sepulveda Boulevard, one of the main entrances into the passenger terminal area, said Nancy Suey Castles of Los Angeles World Airports.
comin’ into Los Angeleees...
TROP, or is this guy from Wanker County?
He wasn't necessarily "entering the airport".
Second, we have the right to bear arms, period. Since when is transporting a collection illegal?
Dear God! When did the Amish start driving trucks?
Update: Description
Man with 30 Hand Guns, 7 Rifles, Ammunition Arrested at LAX Los Angeles International Airport officials have updated earlier information regarding this morning’s arrest: “A male Hispanic was detained and subsequently taken into custody at 12:20pm today by federal and local law enforcement officers who are investigating his attempt to bring several weapons plus ammunition into LAX. At 10:49 this morning, the man driving a grey 4X4 Silverado was stopped by Airport Police officers for a routine vehicle inspection at the intersection of westbound Century Blvd. and Sepulveda Blvd., one of the main entrances into the passenger terminal area of LAX. Thirty handguns and 7 rifles, plus fully loaded ammunition magazines were found in the same container in the back of his pickup truck. The driver was arrested at 12:20 pm for weapons transportation violations and will be booked at Pacific Division LAPD.”
Or picking up or dropping off someone else.
Did anyone consider he might be going on a hunting trip?
with 30 handguns? Not likely. That doesn't mean he was necessarily doing anything nefarious, it just seems unlikley.
In most places, you follow the rules about how they must be packed, and then declare them when you check your bags. It's perfectly legal.
I once inadvertently transported a full box of .45 ACP in my checked baggage. On the return trip, I declared it. They said, "is it in the original box", I replied "yes". They said, tell the TSA guy at the screening machine about it and go board your flight. I did, he said "OK", and I was on my way.
Guns are slightly, though not much, different. (They need to hand inspect the containers, since any gun shipping container is likely to be full of nitrates that would set the sniffer off, apparently loaded ammo won't).
There are signs all around Bush Intercontinental here in Houston, even up on FM 1960 that says all vehicles are subject to search when approaching the airport, like I said, lets be realistic. You know it is not against the law to travel on an airplane even if all you know how to do is fly one and not land one. I do not want to see an act like Bombay happen here, thats all it would take to do away with gunowner rights, look what slippery slope we went down after Kennedy was killed.
Wow...I’ve heard of checkpoints in other states, but I’ve never been through one.
What would happen if you told them “no” and didn’t waive your 4th Amendment rights?
Ed
OK, they have luggage carts. I'd still like to see him pull it out of the truck and put it on the cart. Was he then going to leave it at the entrance while he went and parked the truck?
And by the way we ARE the government - not just the people occupying seats in Washington or wearing unifroms.
Not much to go on, but my bet is that this guy is a gun dealer or gun afficianado who was at the airport to pick someone up. It probably didn’t occur to him that he had to clean out his truck before parking at the airport.
The update said he was hispanic male, maybe an illegal and thats where the transportation violation came in or could be a felon transporting, also illegal transportation.
Nice response.
If you mean to be sarcastic, you might want to identify the post as sarcasm.
Most people here use a < /sarc > tag.
Happy FReeping!
If he had actually been a bad guy he would have had a couple of firearms, loaded and available - not a whole bunch of them locked in the back of a truck.
We have evolved to a condition where we look at our own right to keep and bear arms as something suspicious.
This is the last big step before we lose all of our rights.
I think he was being sarcastic.
