I think that Obama’s roots go far into Chicago politics and Blago uncovered it. Maybe not intentionally, but he did nevertheless, so he’s go to go. But that's not the case. If he's impeached there is a trial with people under oath. The dems will have no way to control who is called to testify or what they might say. Forcing this to impeachment would be the last thing I would do if I was the dems.

Even should the trial occur after a Senate conviction, if he can't be convicted in a court, then he may have grounds to overturn a Senate conviction.

Removal from office and a criminal conviction are separate from one another. Acquittal in a criminal trial would no more affect his removal, than would his removal allow for his immediate imprisonment.
