I cursed the day that Monday Night Football got switched to ESPN. A sad day that a common man and his son couldn’t watch unless they had satellite or cable.
Add the BCS College bowl games to that list in 2012, according to ESPN’s new deal.
I like it, because ESPN has an HDTV signal that I can receive on cable; whereas, there is no HDTV signal on my cable system for NFL games broadcast on Fox or NBC. There's a reason why the transistion was scheduled for February 17. It's after the Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, and NBA allstar game. After the digital transition, my local stations will switch to HDTV, and it will be possible to receive sports broadcasts from local stations both over the air and on cable in HDTV.
All they did was swap the Sunday night game for the Monday night game. SNF is now where the true feature game is, and with flexible scheduling they can keep it that way all season. The old SNF games were on cable while the MNF feature game was on broadcast, now the SNF feature is on broadcast and MNF non-feature-get-everybody-on-primetime is on cable. ESPN has done a good job of pretending the MNF games are still the feature game, but it’s not.
