NEW YORK (Reuters) Private-sector employers shed 693,000 jobs in December, a private employment service said on Wednesday in a report that was far worse than expected and pointed to more ugly news from the government's jobs data due later this week.
The drop, much bigger than the revised 476,000 private sector jobs lost in November, is consistent with about a 670,000 fall in December non-farm payrolls, said Joel Prakken, chairman of Macroeconomic Advisers LLC, which jointly develops the private sector employment report with ADP Employer Services.
On Friday the government will release its non-farm payrolls report, considered the most authoritative gauge of the U.S. labor market.

How many jobs were from bloated Fannie-type institutions?
I got caught up in the great lay-off of 2001 and this one seems to be less.
What would we do without him?
and Agilent lays off 10% of workforce today.
>>Does anyone remember what happened July 24th, 2008 and what was said would happen following?
Does anyone know what will happen July 24th, 2009 and what will happen after that?<<
Please tell us.
With Hussein's promise of tax hikes, we and most business owners we know are reorganizing.
My Coleman beach screen was stolen during a thunderstorm in Florida.
Minimum Wage increased and Conservatives said this would lead to employers laying off workers.
July 24th, 2009 will mark another increase.

And yes, they actually DID have "black helicopters" flying overhead. Just ask Maria Bartiromo when she interviewed Soros at a previous Davos get together, she could barely get a word out with all the noise overhead. The security used to protect the global elites was tighter than a Oprah pantsuit at that Davos gathering of crooks.
Well I was one of those who lost their jobs in Dec.
I survived a year of unemployment during the dot com crash when Seattle umemployment reached something like 10%.
I survived that. I’ll survive this.
And I don’t think anything is going to pick up in March-April.
And I don’t think the governments current plan of spending themselves out of this recession will work either. Its going to make it worse and prolong the damage, just like their idiotic attempts to prop up housing prices where values are double or triple what they should really be.
I believe 2009 is going to be a horrible year.
That increase won’t help things at all. What will the minimum wage be then?
“Im not too worried.”
For yourself or for the country?
Covered nonexempt workers are entitled to a minimum wage of not less than $6.55 per hour effective July 24, 2008; and $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009.
Among other things that will encourage employers to hire illegals who won’t whine about making less than minimum wage so as not to get caught.
Thanks. What do you think the unemployment rate will be in Dec., 2009?
Just breaking: A number of rockets are hitting northern Israel.
We’d better hunker down. Things all over ain’t lookin’ too good.
Is that when Schumer outed IndyMac?
