Scott Co. deputy fires during domestic call

An internal investigation is underway after a seemingly ordinary domestic dispute call turned into an officer opening fire on innocent residents in New Market on Sunday.

The Scott County Sheriff's Department said they were called to a home on the 23000 block of Logan Avenue on reports of a fight.

When no one answered the door, Officers Marcus Hoffer and Adam Volek forced their way into the home.

"The first time he yelled he was a sheriff to me, was after he fired five times at us," said Justin Friedges.

According to Friedges, one of the deputies knocked once on the front door before entering and opening fire. He and his brother Pete thought officers were intruders and responded that they had a weapon, and warned them to leave.

"I thought this was just some crazy guy. He sounded hysterical and just broke down my door," Friedges said.

The brothers retreated and called 911 from a bedroom. When authorities arrived, the two men were held in jail for six hours before being released.

"Sorry for almost killing you? No I didn't get that from them," Friedges said.

According to Scott County officials, it was later discovered that the dispute call took place at another building on the property. No one was hurt in either incident.

No charges have been filed in connection with the original call. To avoid a conflict of interest, Dakota County will conduct an internal investigation into the use of force in this case.

As a brother to three LEO's that are honest law biding productive citizens, and with a background in L.E. myself, I am aware most negative situations are honest mistakes and most questionable use of force situations have extenuating circumstances.

I am 100 percent pro law enforcement. However, I will be the first to admit, in many of these almost daily incidents now, law enforcement in America seems to have become a police state...Lots of good cops out there, but there sure seems to be a hell of a lot of bad ones too, from the top down.

If anyone has followed the story and trial of Sheriff Carona in Orange County Cal, you know what I mean. Many of these people are just completely out of control in my opinion.
