He's one of our most beloved rock stars famous for his huge mouth, snake hips and distinctive vocal style.
But Mick Jagger has come only ninth in a poll of the greatest voices in rock.
It was the high-pitched rough-edged wail of Led Zeppelin front man Robert Plant that won the title after he came first in a vote organised by digital radio station Planet Rock.

If it’s only about voices, whatever. In the all-around category, Jagger has it over Plant, as much as I admire Plant’s post-Zep work.
You can’t always get what you want.
Caroline Graham , Life has passed you , bye.
Mick Jaggers lips are so fat !
How fat are they !?
They`re so fat they need lip-o-suction.
I still love Zep....Plant in his younger days along with his sexy voice just turned me on!!!!! I think Mick always sounded off key.
He’d be a “Fool to Cry.”
Like Eddie Murphy said, "Even black people say, 'he got some big-ass lips.'"
Out of the *big 3* ... Zep, Stones, Who ... Roger Daltry all the way! No question about it ...
Jagger is a talented impressario, an accomplished actor, and incidentally knows a thing or two about singing.
Plant had the good fortune to be in one of those fairly rare bands where the parts where all good, yet the whole was so much better than the parts by themselves. To my eye and ear, LZ holds up much better over time then the Stones. LZ was more about making good music. Stones were equal parts of music and theatre.
Plant rules...no Phil Collins? Rod Stewart? The Nudge?
I’m sorry, but I think Plant’s early vocals with Zep were ridiculous, like he was trying to be a male version of Janis Joplin.
I read somwhere that Zep still sells 3 million records a year.
I do see your point to an extent. But I still love that early Zep stuff especially alternative versions like BBC sessions etc. I think Page was always the one calling the shots and he saw the other 3 as his musical backdrop. And probably there were times when Plant overreached. Probably Janis did too, at some point in her career. But when you consider the body of work, LZ still rocks in my book.
A good chunk of my MP3’s are LZ and I listen to them all the time. Never seems to get old for me.
Man...he just cant get no satisfaction.
I agree that musically Zep is top-notch. Rush is a very similiar band, I think Geddy Lee’s vocals now are much better than on Rush’s early albums, I can’t even stand to hear his voice on anything before “Permanent Waves.”
The two Eddie Cochran songs that Zeppelin did from their early days were both terrific. I had never heard them until one of their recent releases.
That’s a tough one: Plant vs. Daltry. I think I could go round & round on that one!
Daltry’s wail on “Won’t get Fooled” is the epitome of Rock Vocals. OTOH, Plant had extraordinary range in his younger days.
Even “Trees”?
