Thanks to weegee for posting that shot (Nixon’s funeral?).

I’m too lazy to actually find out for sure, but when Nixon was alive, I’m pretty sure that six living pres/expres was the most in a very long time, perhaps not since early in the 20th century? Late 19th? Even earlier? Ford, Carter, and Bush (in that shot) all had one or less terms in office, and adding Nixon, barely more than one, creating an unusual situation. Plus, the Gipper (oldest when he left office I think) and Ford both lived a long time.

Nixon died in the spring of 1994. So, for just over a year there were six (Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton) living current or former presidents. As far as I know, that is the most there have ever been at one time.

I expect that we will be seeing more situations like this in the future. Clinton, GW Bush and Obama all took office at relatively young ages and I expect that this trend will become fairly normal.

I just loved the part where Bubba, standing with the four other Presidents, says “I really love this rug”.

One would think the less said about the infamous rug in the Oval Office, the better.
