—That’s fine but I stand by my statement. Reid, Durbin and Obama are caving because they know there is nothing legally they can do to prevent it. Obama resigned his seat and it is the sitting Governor’s responsibility to appoint a representative for Illinois.—

Even IF that’s true, there was no harm in letting it go to the SCOTUS. Worst case scenario would be SCOTUS ordering the Senate to let Burris take his seat. Even if the ‘rat leadership lost, they’d at least look valiant (by political standards) in fighting to the very end. Appearance is the mother’s milk of politics. And it is technically true that the sitting governor (absolute scoundrel that he is) would, ordinarily, have a responsibility to fill the vacant seat, BUT, he is so tainted by criminality (calling it “scandal” is just being PC) that anyone he picks, no matter how saintly that person may be, won’t be taken seriously as a legislature. That is the upside for conservatism, since Burris will be a political “dead man walking”, even Alan Keyes will be able to vanquish him in 2012. Never thought that day would come! It’s just too bad for the Senate that they are stuck with the fruit of the poison tree in their midst for the next 4 years.

Should read: "won’t be taken seriously as a legislator."
