I’ve been stocking up on incandescent bulbs so that I have enough for at least ten years. One of the marks of a burgeoning banana republic will be the appearance of a black markets for goods like light bulbs.

For a long time there was a market for banned refrigerants, and I also remember I think there was a market for some banned anti-freeze.

What is really funny is that incandescents aren’t harmful to anybody, they just use electricity. But the government banned them, while NOT banning cigarettes, which are actually harmful.

Of course, the government has convinced the public that high cigarette taxes are great, while the government probably doesn’t think the public would go for a “sin tax” on incandescent bulbs.
