“Trying to change the Republican party from within is a losing battle.”

Your alternative, for the second time?

And your prediction for the results, of your alternative?

Timetable, number of elected representatives?

How many in the US House and Senate got elected from a 3rd party, now and in “recent history?”

Most of what I hear from “true conservatives” is moaning about their demise, blaming the media, blaming other Republicans by name calling, threats to go do something non-sensical, and more blaming.

I seldom hear about rational, planned, effective efforts.

** By the way, in my adult life the GOP HAS BEEN changed. It is now dominated by southern white Christians. Thirty-five years ago those folks were democrats.

And the people who were Republicans 35 years ago are the ones that many want to push out of the party, now.

All I say is that everybody has to STAY IN the party, find common ground, and work towards winning.

I do have an alternative.

Conservatives should organize at the grass roots level outside of the Republican party. I am not talking about a third party. Our grass roots efforts should be about fund raising to be distributed to selected candidates who actually votes appropriately - regardless of party. This system works well for left wing groups - such as environmental advocates - why not for conservatives. Clearly the current method of supporting Republican candidates has failed. Make Republicans earn our money.

The timetable for the above could yield results as early as the next election. Even if we don't achieve immediate success, we need to worry less about instant gratification and more about long term success. On a longer time scale, conservatism must work to change peoples way of thinking, also at the grass roots level. This may take many years, but so what. The left has been working at their grass roots for nearly 50 years and are not about to stop and they don't seem to worry about a timetable. Any list of left wing acronyms would fill several pages. Conservatives have very little of such efforts going. We complain about the left wing media and left wing education, without ever analyzing how they got there and trying to duplicate their success.

We have tried to move the Republican party to the right from within. However, we have been frustrated many times, because once in power, they see their future elsewhere. Lets try moving the party to the right from the outside, like so many left wing organizations do. We may just see some success.

Next election I don't want to hear "we have to vote for so and so because the alternative is worse. We did that and got the alternative anyway. Rather, I want the candidates to say, I need to move to the right and stay there, or a large group of people will walk away from me and deny me their money and support.
