You might want to stop and ask yourself if there's another reason you might be receiving criticism. It's not always because you're right.

Actually, the psychology of urban legends is a mystery to me. The closest encounter I've had with a spreader of them was with someone who was intelligent, sensible, had held a very responsible job, but story after story had happened to a 'good friend of hers.' I would have loved to find out just why she was telling these things as though they were true, but I couldn't figure out any way to ask her, so I had no way to know whether she was actually that gullible, or whether she just thought it was more fun to tell them that way.
