I still do not think he is qualified, at all.
What does closing down a military base and converting it into a university have to do with high level intelligence experience, enough to run the CIA. I could see possible architectural experience or other things along those lines, but intelligence, absolutely not.
Not sure either...but his think tanks talks have involved some rather interesting guests.
I would hope now that he is heading the CIA we might have an opportunity to grill him over Flight 800 some more, who knows, perhaps even some truth.

Panetta and DOF’s Robert Gates supposedly had a open forum with Sandy the “Burglar” back in 2006.
He was also on the Iraq study board with Gates in 2005 and story goes was rather friendly with Gates when Panetta was in Congress.
Needless to say though this is, in my opinion, an extension of BJC’s wish to transform the CIA into more or less another solid goverment arm of the DNC.

Not sure what the motivating factors are for O’s choice. But, those couple of things do not constitute experience. Having a professional relationship with someone who is qualified is not the same as being qualified. And sitting on study group for a year....not even a bit close.
imagine being a CIA operative right now and finding out that this bonehead will be your next boss.

I agree. I also hope our military and intel people will give Barama and his people phony or partial briefings and take care of things themselves, a shadow govt that takes care of the real business and let the Dems pretend......

On a more serious note, the Panetta nomination is really head-scratching. With his resume severely lacking in the intelligence-related arena, Obama has been forced — by members of his own party, no less — to defend his selection. Obama’s defense with regards to Panetta is that the nominee has experience from his years serving as Chief of Staff for Clinton. If we are to take that at face value, then how does one resolve the multiple lost opportunities Clinton and his team had - but failed to take - to neutralize Bin Laden?? Pushing it one step further, wasn’t 9/11 planned during Clinton’s watch - with Panetta also in his post??

Actually anytime I see this guy he reminds me of Gonzo for some reason. Not exactly the type to command respect.
Does being Chief of Staff for 4 years offer enough experience to run the CIA and anticipate and combat crime & terrorism? The only thing that makes me feel better is that probably most decisions are already made before they get to his level. But, it is not comforting to think he will have the say and influence.

Somehow I don’t think that will happen. Zero may actually follow the advice of those in the Intel and Military community and let others with some balanced views and proven track records call the shots, and he will look like he is running the show. He comes over like he has it together, and the nation stays relatively safe for the most part. And Iraq finishes up in a few years as a win win, and as he learns from the real experts, Afghanistan will be no Iraq, nor will any form of a surge make to much of a difference.
