Former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell has won the backing of some of America's best-known conservatives in his bid to become Republican National Committee chairman, just days before he and the other hopefuls are scheduled to begin a week of joint appearances to Republican Party audiences.
The soft-spoken politician has received public endorsements from across the spectrum of conservatives - social, movement and economic, but some in the party, people who back him and people who don't, fear he may lack the charisma needed to represent the party on television.
Blackwell supporters include limited-government champions such as American Conservative Union Chairman David A. Keene, Club for Growth President Pat Toomey, magazine publisher Steve Forbes, former Attorney General Edwin Meese, Media Research Center President L. Brent Bozell and publisher Alfred S. Regnery.

Michael Steele needs to step aside for a REAL conservative who isn’t squishy on the RKBA.
He was instrumental in turning Ohio blue. Are we sure we want him running things at the national level?
The RINOs Taft, deWhine & Voinabitch were responsible for turning Ohio blue. Blackwell got caught in the crossfire but is still the best true conservative running for RNC.

I suppose that’s true to some extent but I don’t think it explains everything. I think Tom Noe had as much to do with it as anything else. Not the kind of person you want to be associated with. Dewine’s RINO status was certainly a factor in his loss though.
Add to all that the RINO juan mccain did not inspire the conservative base to vote for him. It was RINO-ism that turned Ohio blue - not Blackwell.
No he was not.
whatever happened to accountability? he didn’t lose because democrats voted against him, he lost because Republicans voted against him or didn’t bother to vote for him. You can blame whoever or whatever you want to I guess but I for one don’t care about excuses or reasons. All I care about are outcomes.

McCain ran in 2008. Blackwell lost in 2006. It was a national rejection of George Bush that contributed to Ohio’s conversion. It was a state’s rejection of Bob Taft that Contributed to Blackwell’s loss as well as the aforementioned national rejection. Blackwell was personally rejected as well due to the numerous scandals that surrounded him. I’m not going to disagree about rinoism entirely. Fact of the matter is though, true conservatives have trouble getting elected in a “culturally diverse” state and I’m not sure Republicans have a 100% consensus on what it means to be a Republican anyways; for instance, there are many republicans who don’t see illegal immigration as a problem (I’m not one of them). There are also lots of republicans who don’t think I need a closet full of assault rifles(I think I do). We call them RINOs but, never-the-less, there they are representing the districts that voted for them.
Ha,the smart ones left ohio some time ago and moved south. There’s your reason.
“...soft-spoken politician...”
Soft speak is okay as long as big stick gets carried.
We need strength and soft speak. Hope he’s got both. The Republicans have a lot of retrenching to do.
yeah, I moved to Texas for a decade but ended up coming back for personal reasons. God I hate winter. I’d move back if I could get my money out of my house but that ain’t happening any time soon.
How can conservatives be for Blackwell? Aren’t we all supposed to be racists?

Roger that!
