Do part-time workers or their employers currently pay in to the unemployment insurance system? If they don't, I don't think laid off part-time workers should collect benefits. Many part-time jobs are inherently temporary, for example college students working part-time during the school year (and going home for the summer). How would the government avoid paying unemployment benefits for people in jobs that were never intended to be permanent?

By increasing benefits for the unemployed, Obama will increase the number of people who stay unemployed.

Absolutely everything this man talks about requires the spending of money we don't have. You can always spot people who've made their way in life using OPM (other people's money), they have no concept of having to have actually produced something to get that money.

I don't know how long we will be able to sail along printing money, or borrowing it from future generations, but the end has got to be near. I figure that's the only thing that will stop Obama and his minions.

That’s it! I’m going to retire, then take unemployment to collect the difference between retirement pay and my present pay.

The longer, and more you provide for people who aren’t working, the longer it’s going to take for them to find work.

Makes perfect sense to me!

“allow workers who lose jobs that did not come with insurance benefits to be eligible, for the first time, to apply for Medicaid coverage.”

Another reason not to find new work. It's rather insidious how Zero and his minions are going about this. They're using this downturn as a back door to socialism in ways no one would imagine in better economic times. As I've stated in prior posts, once a government program is expanded it becomes next to politically impossible to get rid of due to the built in constituency it develops. Zero knows this all to well. This notion of a “two year program” is first degree BS.

Paying people to stay home. Exactly what brought down the auto companies. He wants to bring that success to all of America.

God help us.

The biggest drain on the unemployment funds in most states is that employers use it for vacation pay.

The employers only pay half and the state pays the other half. The employer can give a months vacation, or so,and only have to pay for two weeks of it.

The employee doesn't get as much money but they like the extended vacation, and they aren't even required to look for work.

In Michigan they don't even have to go to an unemployment office. Just call an automated phone line and the checks come in the mail!

Oh, perfect! Instead of working to increase the number of jobs available via tax cuts on business and personal income, let’s give away some more of my money to make it easier not to work. When are you going to take an Econ 101 course, you airhead...?

Someone should find out which company makes ink for the govt. printing presses that print the money. I think their stock is about to shoot up.

Democrats are wary of slowing down the economic stimulus by provoking the opposition of Republicans, who have warned in recent days that the package must be neither excessive nor rushed. They are also fielding concerns from fiscally conservative Democrats.

This just goes to show you that we have no representation.

Republicans, who have warned in recent days that the package must be neither excessive nor rushed.

How about some of these crooks just saying NO to all of this crap? How about telling them NO! If you want more cash for something you must close the door on any and all other hand outs needed to fund your next insane plan. Then after getting that message passed we would have to keep eliminating hand out after hand out until the private sector took care of just about everything. Then all the criminal mobsters would not have our money to tell us what we should do with it.

We need to scream this to all of these jerks until they get it and hopefully before it’s too late.

Why doesn't Obama just compensate all of the people who have lost work due to the criminals from Mexico being given a free pass to stand on corners, work and be paid illegally.

I’m thinking I should just take all my money and the deed to my house and give it to the next bum I find passed out on the street. It will save Obama the trouble of having to be the middle man on the transaction.

It’s the beginning spoonfuls of universal health care. You get them to swallow the idea by working on people’s emotions, much the same as he used emotions to win the election.

And yes, why bother to work anymore? I know of a gal who makes $12/hour, single mother, qualified for a $150K house and has money to spare. She gets free day care and all kinds of subsidies. She qualified for four years of free college (while a certain college student I know works 2 jobs to help pay for his college and even with that will leave with a huge debt) and declined because why go through all that trouble when she can get things for free?

“Other policy changes would subsidize employers’ expenses for temporarily continuing health insurance coverage to laid-off and retired workers and their dependents, as mandated under a 22-year-old federal law known as Cobra”

If you’re worried about the people, wouldn’t it make more sense to help the employEES? Workers at my company who’ve left have reported the COBRA cost is way out of reach.

No workers pay into the unemployment system - only the employer pays, so including part-time workers within the unemployment benefit system would be a new tax on small and big employers and a nightmare to administer at the state level.

Obama nightmare is about to happen!

Do part-time workers or their employers currently pay in to the unemployment insurance system?

Unemployment taxes are paid by employers, except in a few states. One argument is that taxes paid for part-timers, who can't receive benefits have been subsidizing unemployment insurance for full timers who can.

This is being promoted by the National Employment Law Project, a George Soros funded entity. Every liberal bill proposed in the last 6 years will be thrown into this Obamination recovery bill.
