The Sunday shows
Presented in the order they run in my area
NBC Meet The Press (David Gregory)
CBS Face The Nation (Bob Schieffer)
Fox News Sunday (Chris Wallace)
CNN Late Edition (Wolf Blitzer)
ABC This Week (George Stephanopoulos)
Reid, on MTP, and Hoyer, on FNS, come out of hiding (Nancy still isn't ready for her close-up, Mr. DeMille) to establish their royal perquisites and dominance over the "smelly little people" (us). Congressional Democrats have been keeping a low profile so that we wouldn't notice that they've been in charge for the last two years (shhhhh, it's a secret).
Dingy Harry is provided a solo, and no doubt friendly, platform on MTP, with only a "journalist's panel" for competition. And you know that they're going to be preoccupied with the glory that is The One and the triumph of their BDS.
Steny has to share screen time with the other George Bush (the "good one") on FNS, but that also means that his face time and pronouncements will go unchallenged by lesser voices. It's just the way they like it and the only way that they can win a debate (not to have an opponent, that is). As mentioned 41 is also on FNS, in part because of the upcoming commissioning of "his" Nimitz class nuclear aircraft carrier. I thought it was more seemly when they waited to do that stuff posthumously. Oh well. He will no doubt, also be asked for some judgmental sound bites about 43's tenure. If I were George the younger I'd rather count on Mom for a good defense, but we'll have to wait and see.
As mentioned FTN has the VP "in the dock." No doubt Schieffer has visions of a Frost/Nixon like denouement with the media's biggest boogie man. Dream on, you old fraud. I will say that this is the most interesting of the Sunday shows for me this week. I have family in Wyoming and I get their style and sense of humor. Most of the "sophisticated" folks in Washington and New York don't have a clue when he's ripped their guts out. That makes it all the sweeter. Also, remember that Cheney will be presiding over the Senate as President of the Senate until the 20th and has the opportunity to demonstrate how poorly the Dims, particularly slow Joe Biden, understand the Constitution. I'd love to see some in your face rulings from the chair the next couple of weeks, particularly over things like seating Al Franken (if they dare to try) or challenges to Burris. This could be fun.
CNN is dividing their time, as is their want, between the "troubles" in the Middle East and the economy. I'm betting on a less than sympathetic view of Israel's actions (duh!) and a clearly pro UAW slant to discussions of the economy and the Detroit bailout (double duh!). I wonder if Romney is campaigning for the post of auto czar? I wonder if Obambi has the Cajones to appoint him? It could be a game changer for 2012, in many ways, or it could be the end of it all for Mitt. I, for one, think it's the perfect choice, if we have to have a "car czar."
ABCTW has the most overt confrontation with the Blagoscandal, providing a platform for both the sacrificial Senator to be and Dick "The Turban" Durbin. who can be counted on to be both his most vociferous critic (Blago, not Burris) and biggest defender (Burris, not Blago). The other shows will no doubt touch on the scandal (carefully), but ABC is taking it head on. I don't doubt that ABC has a game plan, but what is it? What is the most Obama friendly position they can take, pro or anti? It could be interesting. That famed Illinois NAZI hunter Durbin will also be called on to counter the evil anti union Republican leader, Mitch McConnell. I guess his the dim's designated hitter. They couldn't have chosen a sleazier candidate. Watch for McConnell to mop the floor with him, but to also avoid any criticism of Burris. I hope the Dims are going to have to confront their dirty laundry without RINO cover this time. So far McConnell is making the right noises.
So, to recap, Bush, Cheney and Israel bad. Unions, Democrats, in general, and Obama, in particular, good. Blago and Burris to be downplayed. Got it. The interesting thing , for me, is to watch the dynamics between the Democrats Congressional leadership and the Obamanauts. This week is the legislatures turn. Will they be confrontational and assertive towards the new administration? I doubt it, this week, but watch for subtle clues.
PING
The Weekend Talk Show Preview thread is now up.
Ya meant ‘09.
nope... just testing everyone else
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! ;^>
He puts like a jackass...because he is one.
MTP is a totally GOP and conservative free zone this time. Cheney will eat Schieffer for breakfast.
Uhm... The first answer is... When Hamas is crushed, destroyed, and/or annihilated????
Let's see...Second answer... Stand back and let the Israelis take out the trash? Veto any pro-Hamas terrorist UN crap? Tell the rest of the world to "F" off, in the name of Middle East peace, of course.
What do I win?
I don't know, but you've absolutely made my day! LOL!!
You’ve WON my undying praise for bluntly stating what I’ve been thinking!
I thought the new Mod at MTP would have learned a lesson last week. 5 panelists are 2 too many.
