“Why did we sacrifice so much on D-Day???”
I venture to say that had our leadership in 1944 known how Europe would turn out we never would have launched D-Day, and likely would have pulled out of the ETO entirely, and just concentrated on the Pacific. Of course, we would likely have ended up nuking Germany just to put it in its place, but that’s another story.
