Reid pressured Blagojevich not to appoint Jackson Jr. to Obama’s U.S. Senate seat

Days before Gov. Blagojevich was charged with trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder, top Senate Democrat Harry Reid made it clear who he didn’t want in the post: Jesse Jackson, Jr., Danny Davis or Emil Jones.

Rather, Reid called Blagojevich to argue he appoint either state Veterans Affairs chief Tammy Duckworth or Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Isn’t this precious? So now we know why Reid and Durbin are so set against Burris. Like Jackson and Danny Davis, Reid and Durbin don’t think Burris can win the seat in a 2010 election.

I couldn’t figure out why Burris wouldn’t be acceptable to the Senate because he is as qualified as any other candidates mentioned and he is black. What else could they want? Now we know they want electability.

I guess it’s difficult for a Democrat to be elected unless they have the backing of the Daley machine and Jackson, Davis and Burris apparently do not. Duckworth and Madigan apparently do. The power behind all this are fascinating.

Blago is holding all the trump cards. He just played another one with this leak to the Sun-Times, which had to come from him.

On Fox News, it was just reported that Blago was stripped of his security clearance by the Homeland Security Dept.

Reid declined to reveal the specific names discussed, saying he didn’t want to embarrass anyone.

IMO part of the reason the (D)s were against Bush wiretapping terrorists because they feared embarrassing conversations like this could be revealed.
