Sounds very much like mass hysteria.
When the fanatics are really going to do something, they do everything they can to blend in.
When the ministers for the fanatics want to make some money in lawsuits and gain some fame, they make a big show so as to purposely stike fear into the passengers.
This is neither.
They are complaining because they were NOT seated on another flight. In the middle of the Christmas holiday travel season. When all flights are likely to be filled.
"OK everybody, give me a big smile on 3! One! Two....."

As the airline’s people can DIE if they are wrong, I trust them more than the FBI, which meets with and caters to domestic terror financiers. The FBI’s leadership is playing PC games, and Americans will die at some point.
