Exactly so. The cartelization of the MSM and its amazing uniformity of leftist philosophy is proving to be the biggest weakness of our Republic. Who would have thought that the internal enemies of freedom could have become so organized and powerful? How did it happen? Roosevelt's censorship during WWII and the FCC? Conquest of the control of Journalism schools and Academia by committed leftists? The fairness doctrine? Funding of America's internal enemies by the Soviet Union and Communist China?
I really don't know what of the above are significant or objectively true. Most likely is is a combination.
