If the US ever abandons Israel, it will be the beginning of the end of the US.

Why? I support Israel, but we must be pretty weak if somehow we will go down because Israel does. How did we even manage to survive prior to 1948?

Israel is not a ‘land’, it’s a people.

Because we will have abandoned an ally purely to political expediency. We abandoned S Vietnam in part because the political elite was unwilling to vest itself in the country, but Israelis are willing to fight and die for theirs. We would have no reason - rational or otherwise - to cease to support Israel.
