AfriKids - Bringing Big Smiles To Little Faces
Resident Artist - Paul Apowida
Paul paints mainly in acrylic and his colourful pictures depict facets of life in Ghana such as the southern coastal slave forts, bustling urban markets, Asante sunsets and rural village festivals. Paul\'s captivating art is reflective of his extraordinary life story.

Paul was born in Sirigu, a remote village in Northern Ghana where he had a difficult start in life. His parents died shortly after he was born and Paul, believed to be a spirit child, was blamed, and due to be killed by his family. On hearing the story, Sr Jane Naaglosegme, the founder of a local Babies\' Home for \'spirit children\', convinced the family to let her take him into her care. Jane cared for Paul until he was old enough to attend a prestigious charitable school and orphanage in Tema, Southern Ghana. Paul completed school in Tema and went on to study graphic design at college in Accra. Paul is currently purusing a career in the British Army.

Paul dreams of being able to help alleviate the suffering of others in circumstances similar to his and chooses to use his artwork to help the work AfriKids are doing.

"I wish to achieve my greatest dream, that is to help people like myself, who have to go through the trauma of neglect by families because of traditional beliefs and superstition and to sensitise them on certain facts of life which may be linked to a child birth."
