HONOLULU – Barack Obama might have abs that are the envy of men half his age and the ability to command a crowd of 100,000 with his speeches.
But when it comes to the decidedly presidential sport of golf, well, to put it diplomatically – he’s only a little smoother on the links than he is in a bowling alley.
It wasn’t until Obama teed off as the president-elect a few times during his Hawaiian vacation that his golfing skills – or lack thereof – really showed.
Warming up at Mid-Pacific Country Club in Kailua on Monday, Obama hit drives that looked more like ground balls to the shortstop. Over the past ten days, he’s also shanked the ball, hit a few low line drives and was described as “twisting his body wildly” when taking a swing.
“Obviously it’s not his first sport,” said Tim Dietrich, the general manager of Mid-Pacific Country Club. “But certainly he is a very good athlete and with some right information and a little more practice he could be a really good golfer. I was really impressed with his attitude.”
Fiercely competitive by nature, Obama has admitted his shortcomings. “I’m not that good,” he confessed to reporters last week while taking a break in the Olomana Golf Links club house.

He’s not going to have time for Golf anyway. Too much going on. Hiding birth certificates, covering up Rezko dealings, looking over his shoulder as Illinois politics climbs out of the gutter into the daylight. Lots of stuff to keep him occupied without having to worry about hitting a little white ball.

I seem to recall a story about Bubba playing a round of golf with Jack Nicklaus one day(while Bubba was president).
Bubba was rather fond of taking “mulligans.” He was doing this a lot during his tour of the links with Jack. Mr. Nicklaus finally told the president not to be so liberal with his do overs.
I thought that was very, very funny.

Don’t know. Maybe they could throw up a frisbee golf course at the WH. That would be more in line with the green agenda anyway.

I’d love to show this guy what a real workout is....what a joke....
A madening sport that takes lessons, time, practice and patience. Even after all of that, the best you can hope for is improvement.

You know who the two others in the 4some were? Arnold Palmer and KEN LAY. Interesting that the media never mentions how close Bubba and Kenny were.
