No. WRAMC was a total breakdown of leadership, Hell, the Commander, in testimony said when asked about the squalid conditions there: “I don’t do barracks inspections at Walter Reed.” (and was subsequently fired) and the brigade Sergeant Major was relieved as well. THEY are the ones who bear the brunt of the responsibility of failure.
Glad that you’re getting care (apparently good care) at the VA. Unfortunately, they are not and were not moving towards taking care of the thousands and thousands of soldiers coming back from I&A with much different needs than what our fathers and grandfathers needed.
That’s why Gates had to say We have no higher priority in the Department of Defense, apart from the war itself, than taking care of our men and women in uniform who have been wounded — who have both visible and unseen wounds. Ya think VA would have seen that sooner.
