Josephine County Sheriff’s Office Detective Joshua “Josh” White, 34, has been reassigned to the Records Division after being charged with theft and criminal mistreatment.

White was arraigned during mid-December in Jackson County Circuit Court. He pleaded “not guilty” and was released on his own recognizance. The victim in the case is his grandfather, who lives in Medford, as does White.

White faces five counts each of criminal mistreatment and aggravated theft in connection with what could be at least $170,000 of his grandfather’s money, according to court documents. The relative, 89-year-old Bruce Jackson, is described as incapacitated.

I grew up in Florence and in the old days the city elected officials were mostly incompetent but not what I'd call crooked. Also the county hummed along fine until they expanded the commission from three at large to five district posts. Then the so-called progressives started coming in where they could get elected. Since the commissioners here are full time paid the spots attract a lot of candidates who are in it for the chance to get paid while working full time to expand their own political power and connections - but most of them don't have outside enterprises that can benefit much from their positions, so the biggest scandals are usually related to questionable travel & meal expenses. For just about all of them what work they actually do is dedicated making budgets that exceed expected revenue & then crying for more money. The holy grail is of course that federal welfare to replace the “lost” BLM O&C timber revenue so they spend plenty of time dragging their carcasses to DC and putting their faces in front of the crowd there.

Major restaurant chains in Massachusetts would be required to prominently post the calorie counts for all their offerings - at the counter or on the menu - under a far-reaching anti-obesity campaign that Governor Deval Patrick's administration is expected to announce today. The administration's battle against bulging waistlines also calls for public schools to measure the height and weight of first-, fourth-, seventh-, and 10th-graders and calculate whether a child is overweight. The finding would be sent home with students along with detailed advice on eating better and exercising more,
