>>Or you could (I know this might be a stretch) sit down and read and study the Bible at home as well as going to church. Invite some friends, someone bake something. Serve a little coffee and next thing you know, you have a nice Bible study group going on.<<

Why?
I’d much rather go to Holy Mass and receive Jesus himself.

Or even Adoration. Which would you prefer? To be with your Father or to read a letter from your Father. I’d rather be with Jesus than just read His Words.

Well this is where one of the differences lies between Catholics and other Christians. You seem to believe that you have to receive Christ into your life more than once.

Or do I misunderstand?

I think Evangelicals include PRAYER in their Bible study and believe that the Father is with them in their study. They claim this as their promise :

MATTHEW 18:20 : "Where 2 or 3 are gathered together in my name, there I am together with them."

Jesus said in Matthew that if two or more of us are gathered together in His name He is there with us. And "just reading His Words" IS receiving Him. He is the Word of God. (John 1). And that Word is LIVING and ACTIVE (Hebrews 4). We are meeting with the living, active God in the flesh (Romans 12).

I know you believe you receive Jesus Himself. I hope at the end you find that to be true, but to have Jesus Himself you need to ask Him to come into your life. He will. A bible study with other women is a wonderful fellowship and a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours learning. Try it, dear mom.
