2009 to be one of warmest years on record: researchers

Next year is set to be one of the top-five warmest on record, British climate scientists said on Tuesday.

The average global temperature for 2009 is expected to be more than 0.4 degrees celsius above the long-term average, despite the continued cooling of huge areas of the Pacific Ocean, a phenomenon known as La Nina.

That would make it the warmest year since 2005, according to researchers at the Met Office, who say there is also a growing probability of record temperatures after next year.

Currently the warmest year on record is 1998, which saw average temperatures of 14.52 degrees celsius - well above the 1961-1990 long-term average of 14 degrees celsius.

The GloBull Warming idiots just won't give up.

It's not "Global Warming" anymore these days. Now it's "Climate Change." This way, no matter what happens, everything can be blamed on Republican lawmakers and the rich, white, male, SUV drivers who vote for them.

Temperatures could drop to 50 below zero in parts of Alaska
...........................................................
So would this be Sarah Palin’s fault, President Bushs’ fault or both??? I still can't wait to see the ocean water level fall after the Messiah Obama gets in office.

That’s why I’m investing in snow shovels. Global Warming leads to colder weather, more snow, and an increase of the ice cap. Remember, it’s not Global Warming (or Global Cooling for that matter) - it is Climate Change. It covers all contingencies and it’s all the fault of human existence.

Good. After all these bitter cold winters we’ve been having, I’ll be looking forward to the warm winter. Does that mean Jan, Feb, of 2009 will be warm or Nov and Dec or 2009? We’ve had a mighty cold winter so far in 2008.

Great news! Last year the tomatoes in Southern Utah were frozen in the third week of May and they never recovered. Oh glorious Goreism! This year tomatoes and maybe even a bunch more veggies for my own little obamacession garden. The Lord moves in mysterious ways. And the mountains are abundant with water? Would that not be wonderful? Plenty of water and heat, glorious heat!

Nice Picture! Makes ya wish the would check with the experts before they make such ridiculous projections.

We are hoping most of it melts in time for the big celebration on July 4th.

I predict that 2009 will be the year of the giant toilet bowl with Liberals and their Messiah Fuhrer flushing our freedom, our economy, our security, our military, and our future. Welcome to the Liberal Third-World that used to be America.

I think I heard Rush or some talkshow host say that after the screw up, by Hansen of NASA, of substituting September’s temperatures twice when October’s were’nt available, that 2008 will be the 78th warmest year on record.

No, That particular structure belongs to all of us. The picture shows the US Forest Service Work Center at Wind River in Wyoming.

I live Northwest of that site where we have 5 feet of snow on our roof and lawn. I really hope it all melts before the Forth of July.

“Currently the warmest year on record is 1998..”

BS!! The warmest year in the last century was 1936; and that was significantly cooler than AD 1000!

"...Next year is set to be one of the top-five warmest on record..."

I think not. After considerable thought on this matter, as well as discussions with equally skilled "experts", I've decided that next year is going to be colder than the hubs of hell.

Reminds me of a graph of Japanese fertility rates I recently saw.

Steady decline from WWII to today, dipping below replacement level of 2.1 around 1990 and continuing downward to around 1.2 now.

The graph then showed a bottoming out in 2009 and a predicted rise back to replacement levels by about 2015. The interesting part is that the attached article presented absolutely no reason why the fertility rate should rebound so dramatically. In fact, the stated evidence would indicate it will drop even farther.

But the implications of this were apparently so dire to the authors they couldn’t even think about them. They just assumed a dramatic reversal would occur.

Well, consider that after the ban of DDT, TENS OF THOUSANDS TWO MILLION PER YEAR died from malaria and that didn't make much news.
