To: Red in Blue PA
There has been a "mall bubble" just as there has been a "housing bubble", a "credit bubble" and a "stock market bubble". Shopping precincts have been sprouting like mushrooms for the purpose of supplying Americans with huge amounts of Asian imports. All in the belief that the orgy of spending and consumerism was going to continue.

A little dose of reality may be on the horizon and it's about time.

Agree. A country which relies on Service industries for 2/3’s of GNP can only go on for so long.

Real products need to be produced.

Indeed. I am continually amazed at how many shopping malls, mini-malls and shopping centers go up. How many Bed Bath and Beyonds does one city need?!

Your post reminds me of an excellent interview I saw on one of the business channels. The guest was explaining that one thing that is different about this downturn is that downturns traditional start with a bubble that pops.

This downturn started with MANY bubbles, not all of which have popped yet, but which will.
