When Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin confirmed that her teenage daughter, Bristol, and boyfriend Levi Johnston were expecting a baby, the celebrity weeklies knew that the first photos of the Palin-Johnston baby would incite a bidding war. Baby Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, born Dec. 28, proved those editors right.
According to one source, bidding for the baby photos began at $100,000. People won out in the end, but In Touch was the only other weekly to make serious bids, according to several sources involved in the process. The price didn't soar immediately, according to the sources, because Sarah Palin stories just didn’t sell all that well for the weeklies on newsstands.
“Sarah was on the cover of People, Us Weekly, and OK! the same week, and really only People saw a bump in sales," says a source.
The drug-related arrest of Johnston's mother, however, caused the price tag for the photos to go up.
“The bidding started well before the baby was born, but once Levi’s mom was arrested — well, then you had a story,” says one editor.
As for how much teen parents Bristol and Levi made from the deal — most estimates hover around the $300,000 range (none of the magazines would confirm the exact figure in the end, which is standard).
No word on whether the money will go to charity, as sometimes happens in a celeb baby deal.

Good for them! For all the garbage they had to put up with during the campaign, make the media pay them! Bristol and Levi certainly can use it starting out...and they deserve it given what the media did to them.
I'd rather they get paid for photos they approve of.

#1, I dont see anything wrong with releasing a photo of the baby, I think all of us want to see what the baby looks like. #2, this article is from msnbc, nuff said. Yeah I know, she is so young, 44 years old, already has 5 kids of her own, and is now a grandma!! She is gonna be such an awesome grandma. Tripp is so lucky to have such a great family around him. I read an article that Sarah’s dad said that they have gotten presents from all over the world, so sweet

Starting out young is VERY HARD! To start out with a nest egg would make their lives much easier and probably give their marriage a better chance of lasting.

This really isn’t Sarah’s decision. For all the trashing Bristol took from the media I say she deserves $300K and more...

We have done the same thing for our granddaughter 18 months old. We started it the year she was born, and we just hope and pray it will be enough to finance at least her middle & high school years.

That’s why I dont think there will be any money. They might release a photo, they might not, but it won’t be for money. I really dont think Sarah wants to give these jerks on the left any ammunition to use against her. The left are scared to death of her because of her success and that she stood up against corruption. The media just can’t stand how she is actually happy, she loves her job, loves her family, and respects our constitution, that is something the liberals don’t have a grasp of, the media is in Obama’s back pocket, been that way since January, so yeah, nothing surprises me about the media.
