When Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin confirmed that her teenage daughter, Bristol, and boyfriend Levi Johnston were expecting a baby, the celebrity weeklies knew that the first photos of the Palin-Johnston baby would incite a bidding war. Baby Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, born Dec. 28, proved those editors right.
According to one source, bidding for the baby photos began at $100,000. People won out in the end, but In Touch was the only other weekly to make serious bids, according to several sources involved in the process. The price didn't soar immediately, according to the sources, because Sarah Palin stories just didnt sell all that well for the weeklies on newsstands.
Sarah was on the cover of People, Us Weekly, and OK! the same week, and really only People saw a bump in sales," says a source.
The drug-related arrest of Johnston's mother, however, caused the price tag for the photos to go up.
The bidding started well before the baby was born, but once Levis mom was arrested well, then you had a story, says one editor.
As for how much teen parents Bristol and Levi made from the deal most estimates hover around the $300,000 range (none of the magazines would confirm the exact figure in the end, which is standard).
No word on whether the money will go to charity, as sometimes happens in a celeb baby deal.

x boyfriend? Am i missing something?
Couple of times a week I need to do a full flex on my upper girdle array ~ arms, fingers, pecs, shoulders ~ the whole thing ~ definitely need the exercise.
Oh me too, me too, and a baseball bat in my right hand
LOL!
I did give away my baby pics. He was a really huge baby, so much so that the nurses remembered me when I had my 2nd baby two years later.
It is such a private, sacred moment. If these pics are sold for profit, it will unfortunately reflect on her parents as well.
Can an 18 y/o handle this though.? Sarah can only protect her so much. Just raising a “regular” baby is hard enough. I saw a post that some family member said the baby was doing great and that she was doing...ok. I remember all the physical and mental worries that slam you.
Baloney! See my post # 17.
“Hope they MILK the MSM for ALL THEY CAN GET!!”
Absolutely. It’s not like they won’t need it.

She obviously doesn't know much unless someone faxes it to her.
Not many celebrities donate their baby picture money to charity. And the ones who say they will donate aren't asked to prove it.
Had everything to do with what?
“Bet her x boyfriend is really kickin himself now!”
Her X? Did they break up? I didn’t hear.
She already has been! Where have you been since August?
Bristol deserves to start her family's new life comfortably. She did her part for the campaign, and if John McCain even acknowledges the birth, I'd be shocked.
First of all, I doubt that Bristol will be given any money for the pictures, I doubt that Sarah will allow her grandson to be bought off by the highest bidder. She might release a photo of the baby for everyone to see but I doubt that any money will be given
What are you babbling about? There is no “ex”. The baby carries the Johnston name and they said they’ll marry.
They’ll mock and judge anyway and Bristol can cry all the way to the bank - and maybe get a house with this.
Take the money and RUN!
I love and support Sarah. But, ultimately, it's not her call. Levi and Bristol are the parents. It's up to them.

PPMama, you're right. But it's an interesting problem. We have gotten to know Gov. Palin somewhat- and she doesn't seem the type to "cash in". But, this is not her decision--and it's not solely a Palin family decision. For the sake of argument, the Johnson's might say- hey, we're not involved in politics- and if a magazine wants to give our son money, why shouldn't he take it.
Not saying that's how they'd react- just saying there's not a simple answer here.
Well, at least the young couple can get themselves started and start a college fund for Tripp at the same time.
