BAGHDAD Iraqi Security Forces and Multi-National Division Baghdad Soldiers confiscated various munitions and weapons caches from the Rashid district Dec. 26 and 27 during security operations in southern Baghdad.
At approximately 5 p.m. Dec. 26, Iraqi Army soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 53rd Brigade, 14th Iraqi Army Division, partnered with 1st Bn., 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, seized four 82 mm mortar rounds and 100 small arms rounds in Rashids Shurta community.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., Soldiers of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, attached to the 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B, sent a security patrol to assist Iraqi National Police from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Brigade, 2nd NP Division, who found an improvised explosive device composed of two 152 mm rockets in the Masafee community. An Iraqi explosive ordnance disposal team disarmed the bomb and confiscated the munitions.
At approximately 2 a.m. Dec. 27, Iraqi NPs from the 1st Battalion, 3rd Aburisha Brigade, attached to the 2nd NP Division, working with Soldiers of Troop C, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, seized four pressure plates in the Saha community of southern Baghdads Rashid district.
The ISF continue to find caches, proving to the residents of the Rashid district that they enforce the Iraqi Rule of Law, said Maj. Dave Olson, spokesperson for the 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B. Soldiers of the 1st Brigade continue to assist the ISF by mentoring them and providing tactical over watch.
