Troops' support of Obama iffy: poll [ Commander-in-"Che" Alert!]

When asked how they feel about President-elect Barack Obama as commander in chief, six out of 10 active-duty service members say they are uncertain or pessimistic, according to a Military Times survey.

In follow-up interviews, respondents expressed concerns about Obama's lack of military service and experience leading men and women in uniform.

''Being that the Marine Corps can be sent anywhere in the world with the snap of his fingers, nobody has confidence in this guy as commander in chief," said one lance corporal who asked not to be identified.

Underlying much of the uncertainty is Obama's stated 16-month timetable for pulling combat troops out of Iraq, as well as his calls to end the ''don't ask, don't tell" policy to allow gays to serve openly in the military, according to survey responses and interviews.

Nearly one-third of respondents -- including eight out of 10 black service members -- said they are optimistic about their incoming boss.

“He still wants to join the Marines though, 4 years of college will buy him time while Obama is President.”

Hey, Panthermom. Four years in college is a good idea. That will give your son opportunities to go to OCS (Office Candidate School) in Quantico. Tell him to try out for the MAW (Marine Air Wing). Better food. Prettier girls. The A-4 and F-4 Marine pilots in Nam were the best. Or 002 (intelligence field) isn’t bad either, especially if your son has an aptitude for languages.

Good luck.

We have family friends whose kids are in the Marines now as well as my brother who is a veteran, they all have told him he will be better off with the college first.

Since the North produced Ronald Reagan, and Milton Friedman, as well as Walter Williams, let’s not get into regional rivalry. We have enough problems defeating liberals, now that large parts of the South believes in the free lunch.

Reagan was born in Illinois and moved to LA in the 30’s. Friedman and Williams are good guys, but they are economic conservatives. There is more in life than money; I know how hard it is for you country club Republicans to understand.
