I’d throw in that online education needs to be more varied.

The problem with online education today is that it is run by the same incompetents who run the brick & mortar educational institutions.

The professors are the same as those who teach in front of live classes, so they structure the programs in much the same way they structure their normal classes.

A significant break will take place in a few years where online education gets designed for those online by those online. That is when the university system will start to break down.

The high costs of a bachelors degree versus the low costs of an online bachelors degree will destroy a liberal bastion forever.

It is coming.

You are right about that.

And I hope that change comes real soon, though it will be too late for me lol.

Do we know yet how well online degrees are being accepted out in the job market? There have been non brick and mortar, correspondence degrees available for years, but some of them were almost scams and the general category was not very well respected.

Whether online degrees really take many students from the established universities will depend on how well the degrees are accepted in the job market.

Not sure I understand. What's going to make the online profs into conservatives?

I can’t even imagine on-line education. First of all it is too easy to cheat. My secretary was doing her husband’s homework for him. I say ban all on-line courses. I imagine that the coperations would at least be questioning whether to hire someone who took the time to go into a classroom or someone who possibly did the class themselves on line.

I am currently exploring online options for my son, 17. I am astounded at the high cost of some online programs. University of Phoenix, for example, charges $600 per unit, or $1800 for a 3 unit class. That is way more than our local college, who comes in at $174 per unit.

However, one is more likely to research the actual cost per unit of an online school comparatively, though, and that will lead to competition, which will help.

Why pay $174 per unit, for example, at our local college, for a class that you can find online, at an accredited school, for $80 per unit?

There are online bargains out there, for sure.
