Thank you, both, for your service.

During the Viet Nam war, a man named Charley Wiley organized volunteers (i was one) and a parade in NYC to show support and appreciation for our military serving in VN. As you both know, sadly, this type of event didn’t get much coverage (seems things haven’t changed much) but, like now, there were people who appreciated our troops...but, they were definitely not vocal enough.

God bless both of you.

I lived on LI (W. Hempstead) until the mid 60s and I remember "hard hat" parades in the city in support of the troops. Believe me, acts of kindness and support such as yours were truly appreciated and are remembered to this day. Thank you.

I may have been luckier than some. My mom was a WWII Navy nurse and my dad was USMC who fought in the Pacific. When I got home from VN in '68, I got a welcome fit for a conquering hero.

BTW, for those who don't remember the way it used to be ... "The 'Hard Hats' proceeded to storm the statue's base in anger and set up American flags, then pursued the fleeing protesters." Hard Hat Riot
