If there was no agreement then that means that the father had just as much right to his children as the mother. They were HIS kids too.
The status of the father’s visitation rights is irrelevant. If the father initiated a violent attack on an 80 year old heart patient, then the shooter was exactly correct in his actions, and it was straight justified self defense.
