FRANCE. A Chinese passenger yesterday created an all-time individual purchasing high for Aéroports de Paris by spending 46,423 on a range of great French wines.
The shopper made the purchase at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport Terminal Es La Galerie Parisienne store, run by the Société de Distribution Aéroportuaire retail joint venture with Aelia.
The traveller bought the following wines:
Côtes-du-Rhône La Tche 1991 Château Lafite Rothschild 1947 Chateau Petrus 1986 Romanée Conti 2002 Vieux Château Certan 1982 Château Palmer 1994 (two bottles) Château Margaux 1982 Château Latour 1976 Château Haut-Brion 1958
The purchase was an all-time record, outstripping the previous best also by a Chinese traveller of 23,000 set in March 2007.
The wines were housed in Société de Distribution Aéroportuaires Oenothèque, an enclosed zone offering wines and Champagnes in a warm environment described as "reassuring to connoisseurs and appealing to beginners".
That reassurance paid off richly this Christmas Eve.
Was he a another government official?
Well, he has good taste in wine —— hopefully good enough that he’s not going to drink it in a glass filled with ice cubes as many Chinese tend to do with red wine (ugh .. :(( )
