Basically...China is way ahead of America in infrastructure construction, science...everything. Going from China to America is like going from the "Jetsons" to the "Flintstones".

Personally, I can't stand this guy, but there is a lot of truth in what he's saying here.

It's getting harder and harder for the veneer of consumerism to cover up the fact that we are a declining nation. It's even beginning to show up in technology.

Aren't; there any bridges collapsing or roads crumbling that the MSM can use to “build public support” for the Obamesshia’s $pending $pree? They have to resort to shaming us by talking about China's “advances”. Bullcrap.

Landing at Kennedy Airport from Hong Kong was, as I’ve argued before, like going from the Jetsons to the Flintstones. The ugly, low-ceilinged arrival hall...

Well, Friendman, Hong Kong is not the only airport in China, and JFK is not the only airport in the USA. Maybe you, and Obama and others, need to take a more extensive tour of China and check out the infrastructure nationwide, away from Hong Kong and the Olympic venues, before you start raving about how modern and cutting edge they are and how the US is falling apart.

From what I've read, the China miracle is now benefiting as much as 10% of their population, maybe little more. Imagine that.

We’ve indulged ourselves for too long with tax cuts that we can’t afford,

Generally, I’d like to see fewer government dollars shoveled out and more creative tax incentives to stimulate the private sector to catalyze new industries and new markets.

He makes NO sense. You want to know another name for a "targeted tax cut"??? A loophole!

He is totally against "pork". You know what "pork" is? Government spending the author disagrees with.

He doesn't want us to waste money on "pork", instead he wants politicians deciding which projects to fund!!!

How about we create a few more of those "tax cuts we can't afford" and let the people who create wealth decide which projects to fund?

"Did a search couldn't find it."

For what, logic and reason in the article? Is this a$$ so stupid that he actually believes that the average nyt reader doesn't know that 90% of the Chinese people live in abject poverty with no clean water and no infrastructure? Oh, I guess I answered my own question, "average nyt reader".

One good bit of news at the end of the article, "Maureen Dowd is off today."

Maybe if the United States kept it’s money here instead of sending it overseas, everything would be nice and new here, too. Do you know that trade deficit that people talk about from time to time? How about all of that disaster aid and things like the Marshall Plan? Well, that’s why they have money to build new things and we don’t.

I've had to work on a few Chinese engineering projects. I never had to go there, just redesign what they messed up themselves.

Trust me, they are NOT ahead of us. More correctly, they are backwards with a few examples of advanced society stolen from the western world. On one project, they sacrificed a chicken for good luck by cutting it's head off with scissors. That doesn't seem very advanced to me.....
