Gov. Blagojevich’s lead lawyer has asked the Illinois House panel weighing whether to impeach the governor to subpoena three high-profile witnesses.
The lawyer, Ed Genson, said Wednesday that testimony by Valerie Jarrett, a top adviser to President-elect Barack Obama; U.S. Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), Obama’s incoming chief of staff; and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), would bolster the governor’s contention that he did nothing wrong when it comes to filling Obama’s vacant U.S. Senate Seat.

Blagojevich — who has the sole power to appoint Obama’s replacement — was arrested Dec. 9 and accused of putting the seat and other official government actions up for sale.
The announcement of Genson’s request follows Obama’s release of an internal report on Tuesday that concluded that Jarrett — who once had an interest in the seat — Emanuel, Obama or anybody on Obama’s team had not engaged in “inappropriate discussions with the governor or anyone from his office about a ‘deal’ or quid pro quo arrangement in which [Blagojevich] would receive a personal benefit in return for any specific appointment to fill the vacancy.”

My bet is this seat was always intended for Jackson, but using Jarret takes pressure off Blago when he picks Jackson.
Obama can say, “see, we told you we weren’t involved.”
This is classic Chicago politics.....In six weeks we have another Valentine’s Day. Hmmm....
The refreshing thing is, no matter what lengths all these rat scumbags go to in order to cover up for each other and whitewash the whole scandal, in the end the only things that matters are Fitz and his tapes.
LOL, these rats would definitely love for Blago to “do the honorable thing, like Admiral Boorda”.
Although I am certain they would also be delighted to help him along...

Obama is real quick going to get to the Democrats on the impeachment panel and tell them to stop the impeachment process - pronto. He doesn’t want the spectacle of Emmanuel, Jarrett and maybe others on his team sitting in front of an IL Senate panel getting drilled by pit bulls like Genson.
It would be embarrassing, demeaning and dangerous.
Even if it means settling for a special election in which a Pubbie might have a chance to win, it will be worth it to avoid the show trial.
That’s my take.
