Obama cites Delaware River crossing as inspiration

President-elect Barack Obama is asking the country to look to George Washington's improbable crossing on the Delaware River on Christmas Day as inspiration to get through current tough times.

Obama said in a holiday message that Washington and his army "faced impossible odds" as they fought against the British on Dec. 25, 1776, the day they surprised Hessian forces and won victories that gave new momentum and hope to American Independence.

Obama used that story to say that "hope endures and that a new birth of peace is always possible" — even as many Americans are serving overseas and others have lost their jobs while the economy sinks deeper into the doldrums. Obama released his remarks Wednesday, when the government reported that new claims for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week as layoffs spread.

The Labor Department said earlier this month that employers cut a net total of 533,000 jobs in November, sending the unemployment rate to 6.7 percent, the highest in 15 years.

"We know that millions of Americans don't have a job. Many more are struggling to pay the bills or stay in their homes. From students to seniors, the future seems uncertain," Obama said in his weekly radio remarks, which are scheduled to be broadcast Saturday morning.

The president-elect also offered support to Americans serving far away from loved ones during the holidays.

"This holiday season, their families celebrate with a joy that is muted, knowing that a loved one is absent, and sometimes in danger. In towns and cities across America, there is an empty seat at the dinner table," Obama said.

Referring to Washington's journey, he said "we have crossed many rivers as a people," and he said Americans can point their country in a new direction.

"Now, we must all do our part to serve one another; to seek new ideas and new innovation; and to start a new chapter for our great country," he said. "That is the spirit that will guide my administration in the new year."

Obama is currently vacationing in Hawaii, where he attended a memorial service for his grandmother Tuesday.

Staying tough to throw off the yoke of tyrannical government vs. staying tough to make zero’s presidency look good. And 3/4 of the country doesn’t know the difference.

...prove he is the ONE...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yesterday while eating a fast food lunch I was treated to the sound of Johnny Rivers on the PA system. It was one of my favorite songs,”Seventh Son”. As I listened it struck me that this should be the theme song for the inaugauration,

Heal the sick
Raise the dead
Make little girls talk
Out of their head
I’m the one, I’m the one
The one they call
The Seventh Son.

Johnny is still performing so they might even be able to get a live performance.

Of course he might want to close with something appropriate to the depression like, “Poor Side of Town”.

He’s all hat, no cattle. And that’s the truth.

I hear he's quite the "post turtle", too. ;)

That may be unfair, after all how many people have the guts to run for president even though they have no applicable experience and don’t even meet the constitutional qualifications and refuse to show a birth certificate, school records or anything else, all the while lying about being the first black president? That takes more brass than I have by far! Not that there is anything WRIGHT with that.

Obama, at best, is a walking cliche.
He never misses an opportunity to trot out another politically shop-worn phrase, to re-kindle a grand sounding
judgment, or to compulsively refer back to grander people or times. What a joke this guy is. His Presidency, which HASN’T taken place yet, is ALREADY ANTI-CLIMACTIC, since
America shot its load all during 2008 with him.
It’s been nothing but celebration since his “win”,
and it’s a premature celebration, full of sugarplum visions of hope and change, and the hopeful hope for changing change.
He’s ALREADY SEEN HIS BETTER DAYS.
And he’s milking, until January 20, everyone else’s
better days.
This guy’s got nothin’.

George Washington prayed every morning for divine help. And the many battles in which he escaped unharmed do indeed seem little short of miraculous. If Obama wants to use Washington as a model that’s okay with me.

God has a plan.

Obozo probably just learned about the crossing of Delaware River and wanted to use it during one of his many appearances before the Press.

It’s all political theater of the absurd. Obambi cultists are already trying to put him on the same level as Lincoln.

The treasonous charlatan hasn’t even taken the oath of office yet and we’re supposed to regard him as on the same level with Lincoln?!?!?!?!?! This is insanity.

Let him at least try to accomplish a few things in office before we have to bear discussions of his place in history.

He can never live down the infamy of trying to undermine support for our troops in combat zones. The Obamanation is scum.

I'm sure that someone as badly mis-educated in radical politics as Obambi knew nothing at all of Washington and his troops crossing the Delaware before some speechwriter came up with the idea of using this.

Obambi was thinking "Washington, Delaware, I gotta ask Joe Biden what this all means..... does this have something to do with Joe Biden as Senator from Delaware?"

[OBAMANATION]: "Wait, you mean that the Delaware is a river? How confusing. And what are these Hessians people keep talking about? There were battles in NEW JERSEY? Here I thought that New Jersey was nothing but a reliable source of corrupt Demagogue politicians."

I don’t think he’s ever seen an army uniform (other than the Black Panther uniform) up close, much less led troops.
