I was in Walmart last night and there was a book on Michelle called “First Lady of Hope”. I thought I would be sick.

I think the Laura Bush type makes the most admirable First Lady. She was and always will be a delight - someone your country can be proud of.

Judy,

Laura Bush was BY FAR the finest first lady atleast from the second half of the 20th century to today. I don’t know much about first ladies in the 19th century (beyond Mary Todd) but Laura Bush seems to be the Gold Standard on how to be elegant, graceful and a “mom” to the nation.

Do not get me wrong. I did admire Jackie O too (despite the fact that she was a Democrat). Jackie O too set a high standard but where Laura Bush beats her is that everyone (including the most rabid Democrat) agrees that she is full of compassion and grace and also elegance (which is the one area that Jackie O held her own)

Barbara Bush and Nancy Reagan were fine first ladies. Babs was a good grandma in the traditional mold and Nancy was a good grandma in the “I will never get old” mode
