A Ret Light Col writes a piece at the Army War COllege. FReeks are assuming JBT are at the door. Duuuudes, chill. It is a big leap to get from one to the other.

Maybe, but it seems like ever since the election, mentions of this sort of thing are popping up much more frequently, rumors of national emergencies and mass civil unrest. Hearing someone in the army talking about setting the Constitution aside and preparing for martial law under Obama is unsettling to say the least.

I understand that they're talking about this as a worst-case scenario, but just the fact that they're talking about it at all - I don't know, but I feel like I'd be irresponsible to just blow it off and not start taking steps to protect my girls. I've never shot a gun, but something just seems a bit off about everything lately, and it seems like a good time to learn how to. I'm willing to keep an open mind, and at first I was just happy that we weren't going to have a President Hillary, but I don't want to get caught with my pants down.

we’re heading into tough economic times. recent history in other countries has shown those circumstances to breed civil unrest. our own history has shown civil unrest — the bonus marchers — during such times.

the report is available free online for download. it talks primarily about long shot scenarios. it’s a fascinating document for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that it clearly defines unlikely, but disruptive events. in this respect, it is not unlike the book The Black Swan

Look - I would be pi$$ed if the Army DID NOT have a plan for everything from aliens (lil green guys) landing at Dallas to Godzilla (bio-war effects)and everything in between. But staff pukes at the War College do not set National Policy - and for good reason. Sometimes themilitary can be too good at thinking of all the bad things that MIGHT happen....

Having a plan to start from and putting the (or any) plan into action is light years apart. For one thing the sheer inertia of the military bureaucracy is almost past measuring....

As for the other... That's a personal choice - as where to live and all that. Good luck & check your freepmail.

You’re not seeing anything significantly different than similar ‘mentions’ during Clinton’s term of office. Go check some of the Y2K threads and you’ll see what I mean.

There’s just too much smoke for there not to be some fire in there somewhere.
