President George W. Bush today added a convicted methamphetamine dealer, a cocaine distributor and two marijuana suppliers to the list of drug operators he's pardoned while in office, bringing his total of drug suppliers who have been pardoned or had their sentences commuted to 36.
He's also pardoned more than a dozen thieves, seven embezzlers, an arsonist, several mail thieves, a man who violated the Neutrality Act and eight Thanksgiving turkeys, but there's been no clemency for U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who were convicted of shooting at a fleeing drug smuggler.
Andy Ramirez, of Friends of the Border Patrol, long has been involved in the Ramos-Compean case, and said the questions just start piling up.
"First and foremost is the question that has to be asked, 'Why is the president dug in so deep' on Ramos and Compean?" Ramirez said. "Look at how many members of Congress have sent him letters, and have held hearings.
"You really have got to start to wonder does this doper (in the Ramos-Compean case) lead to somebody really big?" he said.
Joe Loya, the father-in-law for Ramos, said he, his daughter and grandchildren were "devastated" by word that Ramos and Compean had been denied clemency on the latest list of presidential actions.
"We were praying for a miracle. We just don't understand where the connection is when drug smugglers are getting pardons and commuted sentences, yet two agents who are not criminals, who were just doing their jobs, are in isolation," he told WND by telephone as he traveled to visit his son-in-law in jail on Christmas Eve.

maybe part of the reason is, with other border agents present, they picked up their shells and tried to hide the shooting, including asking the other border agents present to lie. that’s the part that’s keeping them in jail imo
best regards, blu
Jorge Bush is trashing his legacy...like he cares.... By freeing drug dealers but not Ramos and Compean. I will not forget this. It shows how mean and stupid he can be
Good summary
I wonder how many of these that have received a pardon or commutation of their sentence where still serving that sentence when the action by President Bush was granted? I suspect most have served their sentence and been released prior to receiving a pardon.
I wish I could get the money I gave this failure for his campaigns. I wish I could get the money back I gave the McCain/Palin campaign.
I deny the contributions to the horse-whisperer side of the ticket, but was well pleased with Palin.
Hey it’s the season of hope. I’ll hope but I won’t hold my breath waiting.
Ditto for SCOTUS actually dealing with the Obama eligibility issue.
“Resurrection of issues is eternal (for conservative candidates and their families.) Remember, a drunken 16 year old Laura Bush killed her classmate in a car crash in 1963.
I rest my case.”
Not sure what your case is. Sure, these old incidents can always be resurrected, but what impact did the Laura Bush accident have on the presidential race? Except for a few leftist extremists, the public will ignore these very old incidents.
The point is, get the old indiscretions before the public well before a run for the WH. W’s heavy drinking was well known to the public, as was his religious nature. If he’d have made the DWI part of his recovery story, a couple of years before he ran for president, no one would have thought much of it. But, instead, it was sprung on the public a few days before the election and it seemed to some like he’d hidden it. But, still, he won the presidency, twice.
There were also old stories about Gore and Kerry. Gore’s heroic tour in Vietnam where he, in effect, had bodyguards. And the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had a damaging impact on Kerry with stories questioning his Vietnam service.
The MSM will always help the Dems, but Republicans aren’t helpless in this aspect of politics.
But get the old stuff out early.
I’ve never understood this. Bush may have appointed Sutton who decided to turn what would’ve been a simple administrative matter into a federal offense. This whole thing makes me sick and it really offers insight into why the Bush administration as failed in so many ways.
First off never give money to the republican party unless you agree with them 90%, now it is like 20-30% for me(GWB is leader of party). Select an tax deductible organization that is not part of R party that YOU believe in, like Heritage Foundation. They cannot be owned by MSM.
I once believed in GWB but never McCain. In fact October 2008 all the FR and Talk radio(Hannity and Levin) chatter about how only President McCain can save us from democrat Marxism was getting me very annoyed. This simple lesser of two evils rational completely ignores the special effect that Republicans like McCain and GWB have when they destroy capitalism and other principles. They give cover to Obama/Pelosi for when they really want to impose Marxism next year, and they take away any real argument we have against democrats. How can we oppose union payoffs now, with the financial bailouts and the corporate bonuses? We look completely unprincipled (except for rich) if we oppose anything now, and inept under GWB. This is why Bush has to be repudiated by R party next year for us to survive. He is looking for MSM praise for the past two years and has thrown us aside.
I heard a liberal on CSPAN (Sunday morning 12/21/08) say that we need socialism (he used that word) and if Obama tried to start it like republicans did this year, he might have been impeached. But now he is free to save country with second new deal that distributes limited resources(ironic in too many ways), because in my words, GWB broke all the rules already.
I heard another liberal on PBS (same Sunday) that said if Republicans are going to bailout investors AND corporations like GM, why not help the little guy. Get it now???
Why Republicans supporting democrats investor bailout bill is political suicide

Here it is at about 13:40 where democrat calls CSPAN 12/21/08 and thanks GWB/Republicans for opening socialism (his word) door for Obama. He points out that now republicans have no valid argument now against it. Says “I am very happy that the issues that we have in socializing the private industry came under a republican administration because if it happened under a democratic administration we would be talking about impeachment...and that the world is coming to an end” Caller claims we must have socialism because we cant compete with other socialized countries, so he really is a lib that realizes GWB real impact.
I heard another liberal on PBS (same segment) that said if Republicans are going to bailout investors AND corporations like GM, why not help the little guy?
He already has....
Pretty good comparison. I like Lincoln's resonse when they told him that Grant drank too much whiskey:
"So Grant gets drunk, does he?" queried Lincoln, addressing himself to one of the particularly active detractors of the soldier, who, at that period, was inflicting heavy damage upon the Confederates.
"Yes, he does, and I can prove it," was the reply.
"Well," returned Lincoln, with the faintest suspicion of a twinkle in his eye, "you needn't waste your time getting proof; you just find out, to oblige me, what brand of whiskey Grant drinks, because I want to send a barrel of it to each one of my generals."
>>They give cover to Obama/Pelosi for when they really want to impose Marxism next year, and they take away any real argument we have against democrats.<<
Exactly. It’s just amazing how well GWB, Paulson, etc. set up the Dems. Also, if we demand to know what they are doing with the money in 2009, they can say that nobody could look at what the GWB bailout was used for.
Ramos and Compean bump
