A fairly balanced analysis of how Bush will probably be remembered in the future. It is a Bloomberg article so it cannot be directly posted on FreeRepublic. The article is linked on DrudgeReport.

Other than his shamnesty position and his shmoozing with the libs in his last couple years (just like his dad did), I think the historians will be kind to him . . . I didn’t see any grandstanding or blaming-the-other-guy nonsense.

I think his biggest fault was not going after the criminal, felon activity of the Clintons . . . he had an attorney general who looked the other way . . . should have put both of them in prison for their many crimes . . . instead, we still have to listen to them and see them on tv in civilian clothes instead of prison jammies.

His Attorney General office was useless, inept, totally accomplishment-free.

The MSM savaged Bush over the eight years of his Presidency for their own nefarious and sadistic reasons. The destruction of America can be the MSM’s legacy along with the reprehensible legacy of the Muslim Messiah and his domestic terrorist cohorts in the US Congress.

I agree with this. Had Mr. Bush learned how to use he bully pulpit properly, his standing today would be vastly better than it is.

Bush grew up in a home where the Cold War was fought; he experienced the front lines of that war.

He knows what socialism/communism does. It propogandizes to tear down freedom.

I think the pounding in the MSM has effected him less than we think. He knows, for example, how such tactics were used in Russia/Vietnam.

Bush knows that freedom wins. He knows he will be vindicated. And he will.

From the article: Bush will have been a good -- maybe even a great -- president.

Very possibly true.

Fox News did the same, I see no difference in any media headline on any website any longer. They ripped into Cheney as well.

I thing Bush and Cheney will be glad to be gone.

As the top RINo republican socialist of our generation the leftist historians will almost love him.

But IMHO he is a low life socialist.

The Democrats are going to spend the next four years trying to equate Bush with Hoover (who was unfairly blamed by FDR for the Depression that continued to worsen during the first six years of FDR’s tax and spend administration).

It is more likely, however, that history will remember Bush like Truman. Truman was extremely unpopular when he left office, primarily due to the unpopularity of the Korean War.

I wonder, since it the mission of the clueless lefties to destroy him; just like they are attempting to do with Palin.

Though I disagree with him on a few fronts, I still think GW was the right man at the right time because of 9/11 and the WOT. I am still proud of my two votes for him and would gladly cast them again. My family and I will miss GW. God Bless him and Laura.

Of course they will. But this is a different time in history.

Back then communism was fresh. There was no alternative media. The media was the hot, new thing with radio and TV beginnng their upswing.

That same media is dying. Our "underground" media is alive and well. As the new WH starts to attack the Bush adminstration, the alternative media will put the focus back on Hussein and cronies.

The Dem tactics are old; they can work for short periods, but not for long.

“I am still proud of my two votes for him and would gladly cast them again.”

It’s hard to argue with a straight face that the country would have been better off with either Al Gore or John Kerry. I too think Bush could have performed better, but compared to the alternatives offered by the Democrats, I too have no retrospective regrets about my votes for him.

I would like to see how people view him after 1 year of Obama’s rule? I appreciate so much how he honored our military men and women and did so much that the media never gave him credit for. Appalling in fact was their negative coverage and yet, so much has changed in the 7 years since 9/11 mostly in getting rid of a WHOLE lot of TERRORIST LEADERS (remember the deck of CARDS - someone needs to post the results of those for good measure).
