Franken holds lead over Coleman, but it's not over

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) --

Democrat Al Franken is poised to hold on to a 48-vote lead over Republican Sen. Norm Coleman as the state Canvassing Board prepares to award a final pile of votes in Minnesota's unsettled U.S. Senate race.

The board was scheduled to meet Tuesday and award votes from a remaining group of about 5,000 challenges that had been withdrawn by both campaigns.

Judging by a draft report released late Monday by the secretary of state's office, Franken will have earned a total of 48 more votes than Coleman once those votes are allotted. That's out of almost 3 million votes cast in the race in November.

Several outstanding issues could still affect the final vote count. The two campaigns and the secretary of state's office are negotiating how to handle an estimated 1,600 improperly rejected absentee ballots. In addition, the state Supreme Court on Tuesday will hear arguments over a Coleman claim that about 130 ballots were counted twice.

Did anyone ever doubt that they’d rig it for Franken?

I knew the end of this movie before it even started.

“Whining is anger through a small opening.”
- Al Franken (as Stuart Smalley)

Guess what small opening Al has been talking out of lately?

The signal/noise ratio in this one has gone south; they have to have a runoff.

A young fellow who attends the same church as I do works for the Republican National Committee here in Washington, DC. He told me yesterday that the RNC has a huge legal time in Minnesota working 24/7 on this. I hope they are effective in helping to secure a victory for Coleman.

Coleman is a good man, a great senator, but, unfortunately, a bad casualty ... just another victim of "W"orse's administration and leadership!

Funny, since "W" elected Norm in the first place.

And if Coleman is a good senator, why did 25,000 votes go to the Libertarian and Consitution candidates.

Bullcrap.

The fact the state of Minnesota is hanging over the cliff about to send a certified MORON to the Senate has nothing to do with our President and everything to do with the fact that more than a million Minnesota voters are as freaking dumb as they come.

There is no longer even a pretense of honesty in the process.

I am in total disbelief, and I am old enough to remember Lyndon Johnson stealing his Senatorial election from Coke Stevenson.

They voted the graveyard in Duvall County then.

McCain’s coattails worked wonders. They got the most psychotic clown since John Wayne Gacy a senate seat.

Agreed, Any one who would vote for Franken is dumber than a bag of rocks. Unfortunately the BDS afflicted on FR will jump at any chance to make this W’s fault. It is not.

The process for chosing our representation in Washington D.C. has been take away from us, the people. This is proving to be the most flawed system in the civilized world.

A huge legal team? I am losing respect for Coleman. He and the Minnesota GOP allowed this one to be stolen. Shameful.
