In Blagojevich investigation, 'Individual D' seeks immunity
Los Angeles Times ^ | Dec. 22, 2008 | David Kidwell and John Chase

Posted on 12/22/2008 12:38:10 AM PST by malkee

Businessman and political fundraiser Raghuveer P. Nayak is Individual D in the federal complaint, sources said. Individual D was being squeezed by the governor for campaign cash, according to prosecutors, in order to appoint Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) to the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.

Investigators appeared at Nayak's home in Oak Brook, a Chicago suburb, the morning the FBI arrested Blagojevich, the sources said. Federal agents that day contacted a number of people connected to the case.

Nayak has not been accused of wrongdoing.

He declined to comment for this article.

I’m starting to think Rahm and Obama are behind the whole thing and are trying to get JJ Jr. thrown to the wolves. We will know when the dust settles if Jarrett ends up with the Senate seat.

According to Willie Brown, that is exactly what Blago told him. That is was the BO camp that strong armed him first because BO desperately wanted Valerie Jarrett. Jarrett is out of the runing now, she is in his administration, can’t take the Senate seat too.

I have a nagging suspicion that Mr. "Blago" is not going to be indicted, much less convicted. He won't resign (as any Republican would have been forced to do by now) and will not be made to do so. The Legislature will be quietly bought off in the usual manner (jobs for relatives, contracts for friends) as will the Feds, in their usual ($) manner. Any useful evidence against Blagojevich will be ruled inadmissible or illegally-obtained. And Republicans won't lift a finger to stop it.

Maybe I'm wrong - but it wouldn't surprise me if I were right.

“How much longer will that thing hold?”

It only has to last until Jan. 20th and then 0 makes the whole thing disappear.

I am afraid you are right.

Guys, if Barry fires Fitz on the 20th -- as is his prerogative as the new POTUS -- The Poop Will Hit The Fan here in the Chicago Metro Area ... BIG TIME.

Besides the current Blago indictment for selling Barry's Senate seat. Fitz has investigations into his administration for other corruption matters going back years. With Blago it wasn't a matter of "if" he'd be indicted, it was only a matter of when.

Fitz also has ongoing investigations into the Cook County Board (all Dems) for corruption, PLUS, ongoing investigations into Mayor Daley's administration, also for corruption. Indictments are flying right and left, and Mayor Daley is looking over his shoulder like he was Fredo Corleone. He hears the pitter-patter of FBI footsteps in his dreams and the 'movers and shakers' of City Hall are now actually shaking.

And if Barry fired Fitz it would be so 'dang' transparent. The firing could only be seen as nothing but a cover-up to protect his fellow Democrat politicians. And I don't think Barry wants to go there on day one, or day one hundred.

So IMHO Barry will HAVE to do what Dubya did with Klinton appointee Mary Jo White in NYC - leave her in the post until all investigations, trials, etc are over and everything complete.

Natch I can be wrong and you guys right as rain. But Barry's asking for BIG TROUBLE if he knee-caps Fitz. We are sick and tired of the crooked pols of BOTH parties (aka the Combine) and Fitz is cleaning it up and locking them up.

Caveat: I have no idea of what Fitz was thinking with Scooter Libby. But he is Golden here with the citizens.

Fitz needs to purloin every last document and every last recording and hide them in a safe place NOW. If Fitz gets fired, Congressional hearings would be practically guaranteed.

Somehow I don't believe this to be true. I think Fitz is scurrying to get his work done now, before the inauguration. That's part of the reason for the Blago arrest to have been timed when it was.

I've thought about this and I wonder if Fitz was merely establishing his bona fides as a "bipartisan"(or "non-partisan") lawman.

There was a thread here a week or so ago where it was reported that Fitz was forced to jump the gun because the Tribune was about to blow the whole thing sky high. The paper had honored an agreement to hold the story since October, but they couldn't wait any longer.
