If Sarah Palin were appointed to a Senate seat, no one would care. Ditto, therefore, for Caroline Kennedy being appointed to one. Mediocre people are elected and/or appointed to the US Senate on regular basis. The difference, MSM bias aside, is that Palin wasn't being appointed to a Senate seat, but she was the vice presidential candidate to an elderly, and possibly seriously ill, presidential candidate. Palin would have been a "heartbeat away" from the presidency if McCain won. Caroline K. won't be a heartbeat away from anything, except, perhaps, the Senate gym.
