S.F. police chief leaving, announces retirement
Chronicle ^ | December 20, 2008 | Rachel Gordon

San Francisco Police Chief Heather Fong, who rose through the ranks to become the city's first female chief nearly five years ago, will announce her retirement today on a radio program hosted by Mayor Gavin Newsom.

She plans to step down in April, once she reaches her fifth anniversary as San Francisco's top cop and after she helps with the search for her successor, she said. Fong has served in the police department for more than 30 years.

The announcement ends speculation about her long-rumored departure and comes as the city approaches its 100th homicide of the year.

Fong told The Chronicle that she is not being pushed out by the mayor, who has publicly supported her, or by her critics, including members of the rank-and-file, middle managers in the SFPD and the police officers' union.

"None of us can be chief forever," said Fong, 52. "I felt I've accomplished a lot."

Still, she acknowledged in the interview, "It has not been an easy four or five years. There are people who thought they should have been chief."

The critics, she said, can apply for her job. "Now they'll have the opportunity."

That picture looks like a set from a “Police Academy” movie. You couldn’t fake one this good in Photoshop, or could you?

No, I think it’s real. Obviously the moonbats thought it was a GOOD picture to have of her on Wikipedia.

The picture of the commemorative plaque of the transgender riot, which I posted above but doesn’t like to be linked, can be seen here.

Caution, this site is bizarre and plays spooky music if you visit it. Also a transgendered spokesperson. As far as I can tell, it didn’t give me a cookie.

If San Francisco fell in to the Pacific due to an earthquake, would anyone really care?

I would. San Francisco is the most visually beautiful city in the US.

Can we arrange to have her residents fall into the ocean instead?

There are a lot of very good cops in San Francisco - they did a great job of dealing with the anti-war nitwits a couple of years back. It’s just that the majority of them are white men, so they aren’t allowed to rise above the rank of Lieutenant.

Been to SF, not very friendly. I wouldn’t cry if they fell into the sea. (Same way I felt about NO and Katrina.)

Would it help to know that Theresa Sparks used to be a guy and Sgt. Stephan Thorne used to be a gal? Not kidding.

Hey Nully ..... I WAS going to make a comment about that as soon as I saw the pic, but thought I'd better 'couth up' and be a good boy. Silly me. I was right at first glance.

Another Affirmative Action wonder who thought she was above the rabble. Let’s not forget that she did not qualify for her handgun as required by department regulations. She kept a duty firearm that was supposed to have been turned in.

“In order to carry a gun, even San Francisco’s chief of police must go through firearm re-qualification every six months. San Francisco Police Chief Heather Fong has missed several years of re-training. “I don’t know how many years, but I know that the responsibilities and the duties of the chief are not only demanding but very time consuming and I acknowledge that I have not scheduled that time for re-qualification and that will be handled,” said Fong. Fong said she has notified the San Francisco Police Commission. Its members will meet Wednesday night. They could take disciplinary action against her.”

...they went to the world famous San Francisco bakery that has the same starter since the gold miners in 49. 1840 that is.

One would think it would have evolved into something else by now. :-)

Read this for a general idea how she was regarded by the rank n file. She was not liked, vindictive, couldn't make a decision and generally regarded as incompetent.

The crime rate is soaring and SF is cash strapped. Prosecutions seem to be determined on a cost basis making revenue enhancement more of priority than clearing homicide.
