You really are a clueless idiot.

Why thank you!

I suppose since you must resort to childish name-calling that you have no real argument.

In Mrs. Jackson’s case, she got income (thanks to you ) and would be able to pay the bill. If I owned the phone store, I would sign a contract with her.

A business owner’s got every right to inquire if the person has the income to pay the contract.

Of course, with Obama as president, all will get free phone service ;)

First, this woman is married with a husband with a reasonable income.

Second you are a business idiot. I already did the f'in case study for you. The reason you are a business idiot is that you don't understand risk and reward. The risk [real cost] to the cell phone operator of this woman not paying her bill for the two months it will take to cut off her service for nonpayment is almost zero since you were already bearing the capacity costs anyway. Furthermore, if she doesn't pay, she gets a bad credit rating and you can continue to pursue her and collect. Third, 90% of such cases do pay, and so this is profitable no cost business that you would get but won't because your brain fell out in the delicate operation of sticking your head firmly in your nether reasons.

And then you just pissed off 3/4 of your customers by being a male chauvanist pig and an idiot, which will cost you a lot of real business.

In short, you are an idiot.

See the post above. I have plenty of real argument. I resort to calling folks idiots when they are impervious to real argument and resort to the behavior of a mule and call the refusal to reason through the situation "conservatism" and "standing on your rights." You have a right to drive your business bankrupt. Your employer has a right to fire you for it. And your customers have a right to refuse to do business with you because you are a stubborn mule. The one thing you don't have a right to is a profit. You have to earn that by making sound business decisions (analyzing risks and rewards) and providing real service to your customers rather than pissing them off by your mulish male chauvanistic behavior wrapped up in a businessman's rights arguments.

I have pleanty of argument. You are a clueless idiot.

Sorry you are having such a bad day. Seriously, I hope you feel better soon.

PS—It’s impossible for me to be a male chauvinist pig, but if you want to call me names... oh well, that’s your choice.

Merry Christmas, AndyJackson.

I am having a fine day. I am having a lousy decade. It is caused by folks like you who can't think but call themselves conservatives and therefore make everyone think that conservatives are idiots who can't think.

If you can't even do the business case analysis to decide that giving this woman a cell phone contract is the right thing to do, you certainly have no head for business. Moreover, I wish simpletons like you would stop calling yourselves conservatives. Conservatives are supposed to be folks who make decisions based on rational analysis and not stubborn ignorance.

From the business point of view, you are asking for ‘unlimited’ credit when you buy a cell phone

Hyperbole. As a safety measure both of my children have unlimited voice, text and data packages that go for around $110 a month per child. My wife and I have a more affordable package because we talk less. 1000 anytime minutes adn unlimited data on our Blackberry phones covers us fine. There is no excuse for a family to spend thousands on cell phones.

prepaid is for suckers who like to be raped in the wallet. Verizon has unlimited plans for just over a hundred bucks a month. There is no excuse to spend hundreds per phone or pay the outrageous prepaid charges.

I don’t know if Verizon has plans for Australia, but my point was simply that she wasn’t denied.

Everything was going hunky-dory until they asked "what is your work phone number?" "Haven't got one? Well, the computer needs one to approve your contract, It won't let me write out the contract otherwise."

She should have just said, I work out of my home, the number is the same.

And, if you are free to get a phone and someone else gets the bill - what’s to stop wide-spread abuse of this system?

We have computers now - the company could write a contract with a provision that when the minutes are over a thousand, the phone quits working until the bill is paid. Personally, I think companies make more money off the "pay per" - The poor often subsidize the rest of us. They're an easy group to "take" for phone companies and banks.

My plan gives me a thousand "anytime" minutes - free weekends, unlimited calls after 9PM, and free long distance. The pay per folks are paying 25 cents a minute. They're paying much more.

Hyperbole....unlimited voice, text and data packages that go for around $110 a month per child.

And the downside for the phone company is almost nada. If you don't pay they don't collect on two months @ $110 per month, but this is on already existing capacity that they haven't sold to someone else so it actually does not cost them very much anyway. The upside is a paying customer for many years. And, if the customer doesn't pay, in addition to cutting her off after 2 months you send it to collections and she and her husband will pay or suffer the credit consequences and end up paying anyway + court costs.

It is astonishing that a so-called conservative forum would host so many folks who are such business nitwits. There is no downside and a lot of upside in this transaction.

At first glance, I’m inclined to agree with you.

However, I have an outstanding credit rating, and my phone bill is around $180/month (2100 minutes, unlimited data, text and web surfing) plus the usual tirade of goodies (free nights, weekends, and so on).

I bought a somewhat expensive phone, and signed up for a 2 year committment. Because I am on the hook for the next 2 years - I warrant a cheaper rate. If I only bought $50 worth of minutes, no contract and no credit to back me up - I would expect to pay more on a ‘per minute’ basis, wouldn’t you?

Same thing with buying anything else. If you sign on to a contract, and you have earned a higher credit score- you will get better rates. There is a saying “Poor people have poor ways” - and there is a large amount of truth to that. Give a person who is wise a sum of money, and he will invest it. He may invest it in himself (getting an education, buy a business, downpayment on a home or property, send the spouse to school, get a license, ect.)

Give an unwise person the money, and he will blow it on crap (gold teeth, chains, big screen TV, spinner wheels). Stupidity should be painful, unfortuately those who are unwise do not realize that they are bringing great pain upon themselves. They simply aren’t wise enough to realize how they have wasted their lives; while others look upon them and marvel at the lack of thought and consequence their actions have brought upon themselves.

And this isn’t a racial thing either. On more than a single occassion I’ve seen a $40K Bass boat, sitting attached to a $50,000 Truck, parked outside a run-down mobile home. You just shake your head, and wonder ...

Just wondering, who says she doesn’t have good credit???

Do you have a cell phone? When I got my cell phone, they needed my ID, my SSAN, my picture ID, and a credit card. They then ran a credit check on me, right there on the spot. It takes about 15 minutes to get 'approved'.

You see, you can run up a HUGE phone bill in a very short period of time. Don't believe me? Think how long you can call China, Brazil and download data while you are travelling across Europe. There are verified tales of businessmen who rang up over $14,000 on a European business trip - because they forgot to turn off a feature on their iPhone that checked their email every 5 minutes. Now, if you don't pay up - your phone may be turned off after 2 months. Who eats that potentially ~$30K bill?

Everyone should have a credit score, when you are married, you take your combined income and you have a score based on your family's income. If this woman has no credit score, this would indicate that she has never had a credit card, nor applied for a loan. At the very least, she should have some source of verifiable income.

A business WANTS to sell their products. But you only want to sell to a customer who is willing and able to pay. Just because you can get seated and order the Filet Mignon and Lobster meals - doesn't mean you can pay for them. In this case, the phone company simply wants to know that they have a reasonable guess that when they give a woman a cell phone, they will recoup the bills when they come due.
