This one is quite different from its predecessors, lots of improvements in design and technology -- even the hull design has changed.

This one isn't the new class. Ford will be the new hull design etc. It's a Nimitz class and Ford will begin the new hull and class.

This one isn't the new class.

It's the same class, but there are a lot of improvements over the previous ships of the class like manpower reductions, redesigned bow, reduced radar signature, faster aircraft refueling, and a bunch of other stuff. But some of these features are planned for the Ford class, which could be part of the confusion.

Basically, they didn't just cut it out of a Nimitz template, so making it isn't quite that easy. As other older Nimitz class ships go through their RCOH they'll probably pick up some of these new features through the service life extension program.
